The Bachelor of Community and Social Development (BCSD) is designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students who wish to contribute to building sustainable capacity in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. Graduates from the degree will be skilled to work with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and communities in a range of settings and capacities and to contribute to the leadership and sustainability of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. In particular the degree provides three different strands of skills and knowledge: skills in working directly with families in providing welfare advocacy; skills and knowledge in community development; and skills and knowledge in community leadership and sustainability.

Accreditation
On successful completion of this course, graduates will be eligible for registration with the Australian Community Workers Association (ACWA).

Admission

This course is available only to Australian Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander applicants.

Application is through the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Pathway Program*. To study via the Pathway Program, applicants must:

1. Complete the application form through the Western Portal at:

2. Attend assessment workshops that includes comprehension and an essay along with an informal interview.

3. Submit the supporting documentation to Admissions, prior to the relevant Census date.

Applications are accepted throughout the year for a start of year commencement, with assessment workshops scheduled in January, June and November.

* Applicants with a Certificate IV or higher in any discipline may not be required to sit the Pathway Program Testing once they complete the online Western Portal Application. The Certificate IV in any discipline equates to an ATAR of 73 according to the Western Admissions ranking matrix.
