About this Unit
This unit is a general microbiology unit, which builds upon the knowledge of the major groups of microorganisms introduced in the introductory microbiology units. It provides a foundation for 200 and 300 level units in microbiology and biotechnology. Topics will include: enumeration of microorganisms; physical and chemical methods of microbial control; classification and identification of microorganisms; microbial pathogenicity and disease transmission; antibiotics and antibiotic resistance; and an introduction to immunity and immunisation.
