About this Unit
In this practicum the food economist's role as a communicator, and the interface between producers, industry and consumers are explored. Scientific principles, quantitative methods, and concepts of food science, nutrition and consumer marketing are drawn together in a problem-based approach to learning. Within this co-operative learning environment students are given an industry specified design brief that links creative preparation, consumer acceptability, and scientific methodology and documentation. This process integrates many concepts and develops skills that culminate in a professionally photographed project presentation.
