About this Unit
The 1990s were called the decade of the brain. We are poised on the threshold of a truly deep understanding of the human brain and mind (Thompson, 1993). This expansion of knowledge has been facilitated by new laboratory techniques and non-invasive methods of studying the brain. Further, mapping of the human genome is well under way. These developments mean that neuroscience is an exciting area of study and poised to make a major contribution to our understanding of human behaviour.
