This unit has been replaced by 101190 - Introduction to Research Methods. This unit instructs students in the practical techniques required for planning, conducting and presenting research, and assists students to undertake their own research project. The primary focus is not on statistical issues, but on essential skills and knowledge in scientific investigation with emphasis on field survey. Topics to be covered include scientific method, research design and process, internal and external validity, experimental and quasi experimental designs, critical review of literature, identifying research problems and formulating hypotheses, constructing an instrument for data collection, sampling, ethical issues, data collection and statistical analysis, writing research proposals and the APA style report.
