About this Unit
B Systems Agriculture - this unit must be taken with the following three core units: AG210A Professional Practice 2A, AG212A Systemic Analysis of a Farming System and AG213A Improvement of a Farming System. B Equine Studies and all other courses - this unit must be taken with the core unit AG212A Systemic Analysis of a Farming System. This unit involves the student preparing for and living and working for 8 weeks with a commercial farming, equine or other approved organisation. During this time the student undertakes a research project to describe the overall design of the industry system, its component parts and explain how the design of this system has been changing over time in response to the changing needs of the people involved and the changing economic, social, political, technical, catchment and climatic context that the industry system operates within. It is expected that the students will use systemic principles and multiple perspectives to view the industry system, its components, inter-relationships and external environment and use a range of different primary and secondary research data gathering techniques to describe how it operates. The activities of this unit include: (a) 2 weeks work experience in November/December with their Off Campus industry client, (b) attend a pre-OCE workshop late January (c ) work 4 days a week for four weeks with, and undertake an analysis of, the clients industry organisation over the next 4 weeks before Autumn semester starts (d) work 4 days a week for four weeks with, and undertake a systemic analysis of, their clients industry organisation.
