Students must be enrolled in a postgraduate health related course in School of Nursing and Midwifery, School of Health Sciences or School of Science.


About this Unit
This unit will specifically enable nursing students to investigate, discuss and develop an understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health, health statistics, historical and present-day issues associated with poor health outcomes in Indigenous Australians. The concepts of cultural safety, health, illness and wellbeing will be discussed and synthesised in relation to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples. Students will explore and reflect on the impact of the different attitudes, institutional policies and value systems relating to the health of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples in Australia.
