About this Unit
This unit develops a student’s knowledge, critical thinking and problem-solving skills related to the pathophysiology, pharmacology and nursing care for people who experience an acute life-threatening and/or traumatic condition that may involve multiple systems failure. National Health Priority case histories used in the unit will focus on cardiovascular disease, and injury prevention and control. The unit will also consider habilitation and rehabilitation of people who have experienced acute life-threatening or traumatic complex health issues. Workshops will be used to provide the student with the necessary advanced assessment, clinical problem-solving skills and simulation experiences to recognise the deteriorating patient with potential life-threatening conditions and intervene with reporting, monitoring and initiation of treatment skills.
