About this Unit
Risks in the agricultural production and supply chain take various forms
including biological risk (such as avian influenza or fire blight), production risk
(including weather and climate), and financial risk (interest rates and
commodity price fluctuations). In this unit students will be introduced to
Australian Standard 4360 Risk Management and its associated methodology of
risk assessment. Through case studies students will examine a range of risks
and their management and explore the interrelations between risk factors.
Students will consider where in the chain the risk lies, develop an
understanding of who carries the risk and how, and methods for
communicating and working with risk. Emphasis will be placed on enabling
students to develop and interpret risk assessments.
