About this Unit
This unit is replaced by 300849 - Physical Chemistry from 2013. Students studying at Campbelltown campus should refer to 300540 - Biomolecular Dynamics. This unit deals with some important principles, topics and techniques in physical chemistry, including the principles of energy flow and transformation in chemical systems (chemical thermodynamics), the rates and extent of chemical reactions (chemical equilibrium and kinetics), and applications of these principles to electrochemistry and a range of industrial and biological processes. The unit extends and expands on some of the topics studied previously in Chemistry 1 and 2, and aims to support and complement other units in chemistry, biochemistry, biotechnology, physics and the biological sciences. It strengthens students' ability to study quantitative chemical problems, and further develop useful experimental and data-analysis skills.
