About this Unit
This unit explores the history and theory of ecology and environmentalism, from technocentrism to ecocentrism. We explore ethics; address the question, 'How are we to live?'; pose solutions for survival; clarifying our view of learning, and providing tools to face a new ecological paradigm. This is the first in a series of units aimed at developing students' awareness of a number of aspects of design. Some of these aspects include: the social and natural environments in which we live and work; the creation of objects that we use in our daily lives; elements of design that influence our understanding of objects; physical and functional characteristics that influence the way objects are used; and characteristics that influence the perception of the quality of an object and its efficiency.
