About this Unit
This unit extends the theoretical knowledge of 25009 Physical and Biological Sciences 1 and 25010 Physical and Biological Sciences 2 to the study of the pathology and clinical presentation of diseases of the cardiovascular, genitourinary, nervous, integumentary, and endocrine systems and to diseases specific to the paediatric patient. Students acquire the skills to identify presenting symptoms and to elicit signs by means of physical examination of the client. They learn to perform and interpret simple diagnostic tests. They examine common symptoms of the cardiovascular, genitourinary, nervous, integumentary and endocrine systems typically encountered in naturopathic practice and develop the knowledge and skills to differentially diagnose common symptoms from both an allopathic and a naturopathic perspective. This unit further develops students' knowledge of limits of practice. The clinical practicum component is integrated with 25067 Herbal Medicine 3 and 25066 Nutrition 3 clinic. Students assess and treat a range of clients on a one-to-one basis under supervision. The unit enables students to assess clients using allopathic and naturopathic assessment procedures, and they develop the knowledge and skills required to establish and manage a successful naturopathic clinic.
