About this Unit
Students extend the knowledge gained in 25060 Herbal Medicine 1 of the therapeutic effects of medicinal plants through the study of a further 75 plants. The unit develops the materia medica and the required knowledge for prescribing herbal remedies for the gastrointestinal, respiratory and musculoskeletal systems. Students learn how to prescribe herbal remedies for diagnosed conditions. They study common symptom presentations in the clinical practicum component of the course and learn how to analyse symptoms from both an allopathic and a naturopathic viewpoint. The manufacture of herbal remedies and the legal requirements applying to it are examined. Students learn to accurately dispense herbal remedies for the gastrointestinal, respiratory and musculoskeletal systems. The clinical component is integrated with 25063 Nutrition 2 clinical practice. Students integrate knowledge and skills through small group learning. They are required to demonstrate behaviour conforming to ethical and legal standards when dealing with clients and other health professionals.
