About this Unit
Students learn how to assess a client's nutritional status through observation, interview, questionnaire, and interpretation of diagnostic testing. The unit builds on the knowledge base gained in 25059 Nutrition 1 by a deeper examination of the therapeutic effects of nutritional supplements, disorders linked with their excesses and deficiencies, and their toxicity levels and dosages. Students study nutritional approaches to the management of environmental hazards to health. They learn to recognise dietary requirements for specific groups in the population (e.g. the aged, athletes), and allergies and food intolerances. Clinical practicum is integrated with 25064 Herbal Medicine 2. Students carry out the tasks required for the daily operation of a naturopathic clinic as a member of a health care team. They perform routine physical assessments and simple diagnostic tests and formulate a trial diagnosis. Students work in small groups integrating allopathic and naturopathic assessment procedures and naturopathic treatments.
