About this Unit
Students learn to apply theoretical knowledge of organic chemistry to the study of important biological compounds. They learn how carbohydrates, proteins and fats are metabolised and how the complex interactions of energy production cycles are balanced in the body. Students acquire the skills to perform simple biochemical tests and to interpret blood and other test results. They learn to critically evaluate research findings relating to vitamin and mineral supplements and herbal medicines in terms of their biochemistry.
