About this Unit
This unit looks at the structure of local government, its various roles and functions. It covers a wide range of local planning concerns including: neighbourhood planning and design, urban infrastructure provision, public land management plans, housing policy and cultural planning. It focuses on the interface of local government agencies with other levels of government and with the community and promotes the principles of sound and sustainable local governance, community participation and transparency and accountability.
