About this Unit
This unit introduces students to education policy theory and policy-making processes (macro and micro) as they affect the development of early childhood care and education programs in NSW and Australia. As policy-making takes place within socio-cultural, political, and economic contexts, contemporary issues affecting and informing policy decisions within these fields are explored. Students analyse current documents from federal, state, and local government to understand major policy directions currently affecting early childhood services. This unit equips new professional early childhood educators to reflect critically on federal, state, and system level policies which affect early childhood education, to interpret these policies for application in their professional role, and to participate in local policy development processes.
