About this Unit
This unit develops student competencies in principles and practices that promote healthy, safe, stimulating and developmentally appropriate learning environments for young children. Students are involved in observing, planning, implementing, reflecting on, and evaluating learning experiences. This unit builds on students' understanding about the nature of development of children from 0-3. Students link theory and practice to meet the diverse needs of children across a range of learning environments. They are introduced to a range of issues that are critical for effective teaching and learning. Students plan and cater for the needs of individuals and small groups; and critically analyse their teaching strategies and generate principles for solving teaching problems. The role of the student teacher as a reflective professional is emphasised.
