About this Unit
This unit is designed to support the initial professional development of early childhood and primary and secondary students as school teachers. If focuses on the social context in which school teachers work, from their perspective. Learning from 20001 Understanding Education 1, 20007 Students, Educators and Society 1 and First Year Professional Experience is further developed. There is also close integration with Second Year Professional Experience which is undertaken concurrently by most students, and is school-based for both early childhood and primary students. The unit is organised into three consecutive interrelated learning modules: School Systems/Schools as Organisations; Teachers' Work and Culture; and Destination Decisions. Students' active participation is encouraged through an emphasis on personal reflection, use of case studies and role play, a mini-investigation and discussion.
