About this Unit
This unit provides a broad introductory investigation into ideas about and the development of care and education, with a focus on understanding Australian children's services and education. The impact of mass schooling on indigenous peoples and Europeans provides a background for an analysis of contemporary issues in care and education. These are examined in the context of some serious criticisms of contemporary educational practice. Broad perspectives are sought by drawing on international comparisons. The why, how, where, who, what and when of education drive the discourse.
