About this Unit
In 2015 this unit replaced by 102306 - Contextualising Community Development Within Indigenous Australia. This unit will provide a comprehensive overview of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, histories and identities. The scope of the unit spans pre-colonisation to the twenty-first century across Australia and all relevant fields of study. A cross-section of institutional, community and popular culture contexts will be explored. This body of knowledge will provide a context for various professions and discussions.
Students will have the exciting opportunity to hear from a diverse range of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander educators from academics to artists through to performers and community elders. A broad understanding of Indigenous Australia will position students to be advocates for change in contemporary Australia.
