About this Unit
In 2013, this unit replaced by 101902 - Outdoor Recreation and Leisure. This unit examines the scope and features of nature-based recreation and leisure, including rural, regional and urban settings. It focuses on the sustainability of recreational and leisure activities from the perspectives of natural resource managers, visitors/tourists, host community, tourism industry and relevant government authorities. Students will assess the management of a nature-based tourism destination in terms of the sustainability of visitors’ recreation and leisure activities within. The role of leisure and recreation in natural and built tourist destinations in enhancing the socio-economic wellbeing of the host community, in ensuring the maintenance of environmental integrity, and in dealing with current issues at the local, national, and international levels will be explored.
