About this Unit
In 2014, this unit replaced by 102038 - Crime Prevention and Community. This unit explores responses to victimisation within the criminal justice system and transitional justice mechanisms that deal with gross human rights violations. The limitations of adversarial systems to provide ‘justice’ have led to alternatives being sought. This unit introduces the theoretical and practical underpinnings of restorative justice as an alternative and complement to the adversarial system to respond to both victims of ‘normal’ and ‘exceptional’ crimes.
