About this Unit
This unit aims to take students through an analysis of contemporary theories of consumer culture and political economy, and recent consumerist behaviour, forces and tastes. It also looks at the present day advertising and marketing industries with a view to students developing a critical awareness and analytical skills to interpret the expanding spaces made available to advertising messages. As a result, students become aware of the ways in which designers relate to various industries which support, shape and challenge our buying practices.
