The course provides a broad introduction to the health sciences. Students choose one of five primary specialisations, these being testamur majors in health promotion, public health, health services management, recreational therapy, and clinical sciences, which prepare students for work in related fields or for further study. The clinical sciences testamur major prepares students for graduate entry clinical health courses. The health promotion, public health, health services management and recreational therapy programs qualify students for entry level positions in the workforce, or related further study. Students have flexibility in their elective choices within the course. Where elective space permits, students have the option to select from a range of majors or sub-majors/minors, to complement their primary specialisation testamur major and extend their health discipline-specific knowledge and skill set. The testamur majors Public Health, Health Promotion and Recreational Therapy are also offered as fully online courses.

To facilitate the development of skills required for competent practice this course includes work placement opportunities of 120 hours (Public Health and Health Promotion), 280 hours (Health Services Management) and 720 hours (Recreational Therapy). The Clinical Sciences major does not include a work placement, but these students can choose a second major in health promotion and public health to gain a workplace experience.

The first year of this course is delivered by Western Sydney University The College, as an agent of Western Sydney University. A Diploma in Health Science exit award is available on completion of requirements specified for the first year of the course.

The Bachelor of Health Science (Health Service Management) has Professional Accreditation with the Australasian College of Health Service Management (ACHSM). The Bachelor of Health Science (Therapeutic Recreation) has been granted accreditation from Diversional Therapy Australia (DTA).

Domestic students are required to have

Completed an English unit in the NSW Higher School Certificate, Or

Competency in English at IELTS 6.0 equivalent (unless a native speaker) Or

Passed The College Foundation Studies Academic English unit at C grade level or higher.

Completed The College Foundation Studies course with a Grade Point Average of 5.5 or higher.

International students must satisfy one of the following language requirements

IELTS 6.0 with a minimum 5.5 in each sub band Or

Completed the College EAP 4 course with a 50% pass Or

Passed The College English test at IELTS 6.0 equivalent Or

Passed The College Foundation Studies Academic English unit at C grade level or higher for which advanced standing can be applied for.

Work Integrated Learning
