The Graduate Diploma in Fire Safety Engineering is a two-year part time program which aims to provide professionals with the special skills and knowledge to develop, assess and evaluate fire safety engineering solutions for the built environment. It is relevant to fire safety engineers developing performance solutions using the fire engineering guidelines to meet the objectives and performance requirements of building regulations. The program can be completed in one year of full-time study, but the recommended study load is completion in two years in part-time mode.

The program has been designed primarily for External delivery. Many of the units have non-compulsory workshops that can be either attended online or on campus. Students are encouraged to attend these workshops to gain the benefit of interaction with their peers.

Study Mode
Two years part-time. Students can fast-track by completing additional units per semester to complete the course earlier.

Accreditation
This course is recognised under the NSW Building and Design Certifiers Act 2018 as meeting the requirements for Certifiers - Fire safety.

Admission

Applicants must have successfully completed an undergraduate degree or higher, in any field of engineering or engineering science AND

at least 2 years full-time equivalent professional work experience in construction management, building surveying or fire systems design

Or

A Diploma or higher in any field of engineering or engineering science, building, construction management, building surveying, fire systems design, architecture or physical sciences AND

at least 5 years full-time equivalent professional work experience in construction management, building surveying, fire systems design (fire protection) or a State fire service.

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a Statement of Service for all work experience listed on the application.

Statement of Service

Applications from Australian and New Zealand citizens and holders of permanent resident visas must be made via the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). Use the links below to apply via UAC or Western Sydney University. Applications made directly to Western Sydney do not have an application fee.

Applicants who have undertaken studies overseas may have to provide proof of proficiency in English. Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.
