THIS COURSE IS AVAILABLE TO CONTINUING STUDENTS, ALTHOUGH THERE WILL BE NO NEW INTAKE INTO THIS COURSE FROM 2007.

This course aims to prepare graduates for lifelong learning and professional careers in planning and related fields; provide the knowledge and skills required to obtain professional entry level positions in areas of specialisations in planning such as urban and regional planning, environmental planning and built environment.

The essential subject matter of studies in planning includes theory of planning; plan-making methods and supporting techniques; computerised decision support applications; development control and regulation of the built environment.

Assumed knowledge: English Standard and Mathematics or one or more of the following: Geography, Economics, Information processes and Technology, Software Design and Development and Legal Studies.

Course Structure

Qualification for this award requires the successful completion of 320 credit points including the units listed in the recommended sequence below. This includes a 160 credit point key program, an 80 credit point Environmental Planning major (with an honours or a non honours option) plus 80 credit point of electives. The 80 credit point of electives may be used towards a second major.

Students wishing to graduate with Honours will need to complete the 70 credit point Honours Research component. To gain entry to the Honours option students must complete the 16 core units and achieve an overall minimum GPA of 5.0 for the following eight units;

Double Majors Option:

Students may choose a second major (e.g. Built Environment) in lieu of their 8 electives.

The unspecified electives must include not more than 30 credit points at 100 level. However, this restriction may be waived to accommodate students' option to take up an additional major.
