About this Unit
From 2018 this unit is replaced by 401206 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health. This unit enables nursing and midwifery students to investigate and discuss the concepts of health and illness in the context of culturally diverse communities. The unit promotes the attainment of critical knowledge and core principles necessary for students to become holistic, culturally sensitive and appropriately adaptable when meeting the health needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People and people from other diverse cultural backgrounds. A case study approach provides a framework for students to explore the impact of different attitude and value systems relating to the health of people in Australia.
