About this Unit
In 2020 this unit replaced by 102766 - Historical Methodologies. In this unit we consider the nature of historical inquiry by looking at ways in which historians have theorised about history, and at debates about the meaning of historical truth and knowledge. We consider a wide range of historical approaches and methodologies, and read some of the discussions among historiographical theorists and philosophers. We also consider the challenges posed by particular kinds of sources. Students will have the opportunity to develop their own essay project with guidance from teaching staff.
