NOTE: Available to students from all other courses except 4656 Bachelor of Health Science or 6000 Diploma in Health Science/Bachelor of Health Science. Public health is the science of disease prevention, prolonging life and improving health for individuals and their communities. The Public Health Studies major covers a wide range of areas such as health promotion, disease control, population health assessment and measurement, environmental health and community engagement. Students will gain knowledge of the main factors that underpin the health of a population, public health policy, and how to promote health for all. Students will develop and use skills in epidemiology and biostatistics, surveillance and prevention and apply them to public health problems.
This Major will be identified on the Student’s Academic Transcript following completion of the course.

For any student at Western who meets the units’ pre-requisite rules, has sufficient elective space to complete the unit set and is not enrolled in the Bachelor of Health Science or Diploma in Health Science/ Bachelor of Health Science). This major is made up of 80 credit points.
