This advanced construction management (Honours) course is designed for high achieving students, who meet either direct or alternative entry criteria. It is aimed to produce outstanding graduates, who will lead and drive the change in the adoption of new technologies in the construction industry. This is a unique accelerated course, where students complete 320 credit points within 3.5 years including a suite of work-integrated learning (WIL) units, in place of elective units, some being offered in summer session with flexible delivery. In the WIL units, each student has an academic supervisor and an industry supervisor to undertake a negotiated WIL activity that aligns with the given WIL theme within a workplace. Students will be recruited by agreed industry partners to their organisation through a selection process after their first year to undertake these WIL units.

Students who have completed all WIL units will receive an exemption of 1040 hours towards completing the Industry Based Learning unit, leaving a total of 360 additional hours required to be undertaken. Students will have the option to transfer to the Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) program if they experience any difficulties continuing with the advanced program.

Admission

Assumed knowledge - HSC Mathematics and any two units of HSC English. Minimum ATAR of 90 or equivalent.

Additional Information

Western Sydney University students who meet the above admission criteria and have completed the common first year core units in 3762 Bachelor of Construction Management (Honours) receive 80 credit points advanced standing and commence from second year. All students from second year of this course must have been selected for a cadetship by an agreed industry partner.

Work Integrated Learning

Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline. This course includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.

All students enrolled in Bachelor of Construction Management Advanced (Honours) must obtain, through their own initiative, 1200 hours of construction management related employment prior to graduation.

To facilitate the recording of such experience it will be necessary to enrol in 300724 Industry Based Learning and have an Industry Experience Diary signed off by the Course Coordinator.
