About this Unit
This unit introduces students to the care of individuals with mental health and wellbeing concerns. The
National Mental Health Policy 2008 provides the population framework to focus on a complex range of
determinants and consequences of mental health and illness in Australia. The principles of recovery and the
professional use of self in everyday collaborative practice will be considered. The unit will offer an introduction to altered mood, perception and thinking and caring for individuals with depression, anxiety and substance use problems. Students will gain knowledge of the stress vulnerability model of mental health concerns, risk assessment and management.
