About this Unit
In 2013 this unit will be replaced by 300845 - Genetics. This unit will provide a sound knowledge of the genetic basis of disease and genetic problems of human development. Students will learn basic genetic principles as they study examples of genetic problems in human health and disease. Topics include Mendelian and multifactorial genetics, autosomal and X-chromosomal abnormalities, population genetics, oncocytogenetics, and the use of DNA technologies in gene mapping, disease diagnosis, screening and therapy. The focus will be on cytogenetics since molecular genetics will be covered in other units.
