About this UnitThis unit investigates social and political discourses of a selection of literary (the novel, poetry, memoir) and cultural texts that highlight aspirations, ideals, struggles and tragedies of national and global significance. It will explore concepts and manifestations of self, nation, community, empire, culture and art through a study of textual constructions of the individual's negotiation of interacting and often competing ideologies. A range of written and visual texts will be used.
