About this Unit
This unit is designed as an introduction to contemporary and popular culture of Japanese-speaking people as well as an elementary introduction to the Japanese Language. It is one of the compulsory language units for Early Childhood Education. The language aspect includes an introduction to the Japanese sound system, writing system, greetings and useful vocabulary and expressions. The cultural aspects include children's literature, children's songs and games combined with Japanese celebrations and annual events. Information concerning the teaching and learning of Japanese in Australia and schooling in Japan are also included in this unit. (Components of this unit are mainly presented in English).
