About this Unit
This unit is designed as an introduction to contemporary and popular culture of Chinese-speaking peoples as well as an elementary introduction to Chinese Languages. It is one of the compulsory language units for Early Childhood Education. The language aspect includes an introduction to the Chinese sound system, writing system, greetings and useful vocabulary and expressions. The cultural aspects include children's literature, children's songs and games combined with Chinese celebrations and annual events. Information concerning the teaching and learning of Chinese in Australia and schooling in China are also included in this unit. (Components of this unit are mainly presented in English).
