About this Unit
Texts and Traditions offers student an introduction to some of the major intellectual influences of the Western literary, aesthetic and philosophical tradition. The unit provides an historical context to and critical engagement with the development of the Western subject, Christianity, humanism, the Enlightenment, and the relationship of the Western tradition to other intellectual and religious traditions. The unit also engages with questions of freedom and the intellectual negations and realisations of the 20th Century. As such it provides an essential backdrop to scholarship in the Arts.
