Students enrolled in the 1708 Bachelor of Arts (Pathway to Teaching Birth-5/Birth-12) or 6017 Diploma in Arts/Bachelor of Arts (Pathway to Teaching Birth-5/Birth-12) will study two units in Year 3 from either the Mathematics or English Specialisation teaching unit sets in order to complete four specialisation units and meet the BA component of the NESA teaching specialisation. Together with completion of units in the Master of Teaching (Birth-5/Birth-12) students can achieve the qualification required to teach in Early Childhood settings and Primary schools.


Sub-major Structure

Students should be eligible for this sub-major after successfully completion of 40 credit points from the units listed below.

Students must complete the following units:

102735 Foundations of Academic English
102737 Thinking Critically About Texts and Society

And 20 credit points from the units contained in one of the following English majors in the Handbook:

M1053 English
M1113 Creative Writing
M1119 Linguistics
M1129 International English

Please note M1108 International English replaced by M1129 from 2019.

Students may also take the following unit towards the 20 credit point requirement above:
