The sub-major in TESOL is available for Bachelor of Arts students every two years. It consists of 40 credit points that count towards the Languages Key Program.
The sub-major provides students and beginning teachers with an opportunity to explore the social and cultural contexts of English language teaching and learning, to learn about the basic principles of English language teaching methodology, to gain understanding of the management, planning and evaluation of the learning environment and teaching materials, to study social language theory and systemic functional linguistics and their contributions to the TESOL classroom, to reflect upon the learning process and the importance of research-based teaching, and to observe practicing teachers in the current Australian TESOL context, thus combining theoretical and practical training.
