Intermediate level is typically for students who: are non-native speakers with study of the language to HSC 2 Unit level or; have a home background in the language but no comprehensive formal study, or speak a non-standard variety (eg Dialect). Post-Intermediate level is typically for students who are non-native speakers with substantial formal study and near-native competence; or are literate native speakers of a standard variety.

Structure
Students should take units that reflect their level of competence in the language and they should not backtrack, ie they must not:
- take a level 1 unit after passing a level 2 unit in the same language; or
- take a level 2 unit after passing a level 3 unit in the same language.
Students can structure their 80 credit points towards an Applied Humanities Langauges major in a named language (consisting of 70 credit points in one of the recommended language sequences below, plus the mandatory Humanities Internship unit worth 10 credit points)
Available Language Majors
OR students can structure their 80 credit points into two 40 credit point sub-majors: one from the Language in Professional Contexts sub-pools, and one in a named language sequence. One of the two selected sub-majors must contain the mandatory Humanities Internship unit worth 10 credit points.
