This course enables multi-skilling in information systems and law, enabling increased marketability in these diverse career fields. The Bachelor of Laws equips students with the professional legal skills and knowledge required by the Legal Profession Admission Board (LPAB) for admission to legal practice in NSW, and to solve legal and non-legal problems. Students can undertake specialised study in topical local and international law and practical experiences. In the Information Systems Advanced component of the course, students learn about computing and information technology in a business context. The course extends learning available in Bachelor of Information Systems through advanced activities including extension projects, hands on business projects and research training. Mentoring and access to some industry partners and research groups will enable students to develop skills and networks that apply directly in industry.
Study Mode
Five years full-time or ten years part-time. Information systems units are offered at the Parramatta campus and Law units are offered at Campbelltown and Parramatta campuses. Students may be required to travel between campuses in order to complete their units.
Accreditation
Graduates from this program are eligible to apply to the Legal Profession Admission Board for admission to legal practice in NSW after undertaking prescribed practical legal training. The Bachelor of Information Systems Advanced is accredited with the Australian Computer Society (ACS) at Professional Level.

Recommended studies: HSC English standard (2 units) or equivalent and HSC Mathematics.

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.
Course Structure
Qualification for a combined degree in Information Systems Advanced / Law requires the successful completion of 400 credit points consisting of the units listed in the recommended sequence below.
- 160 credit points of specified Laws core units
- 80 credit points of units chosen from the pool of Bachelor of Laws Alternate Units
- 160 credit points of specified Information Systems units [this includes the five labelled ‘(Advanced)’ units]
Early exit - Students are eligible to graduate in the Bachelor of Information Systems Advanced on completion of the 16 specified information systems advanced units plus the eight law units specified: 200977, 200978, 200008, 200811, 200010, 200011, 200013 and 200020 in lieu of course 3688 electives and/ or ‘Major’.
Planning study - It may be possible to vary the sequence of units so that students study a greater concentration of either law or information systems advanced study each semester, to minimise travel between campuses and to overcome timetabling problems. Students should speak to their Academic Course Advisor as needed.
