Commencement Year 2015-2017 - 1793.1 Bachelor of Science, Criminology and Psychological Studies

This online degree combines studies in psychology and criminology. It introduces the social sciences and develops criminology as a discipline, including an Australian focus on forms and patterns of victimisation; crime prevention strategies, offending, prisons and different forms of punishment; violence, gender and crime, and cultural perceptions of crime and contemporary debates in criminology. The science of psychology is applied to understanding human behaviour generally, and criminal behaviour including topics of moral development, cultural norms and traditions, the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander context, prejudice, racism and inter-group conflict, anger and aggression, mental illness, drug and alcohol abuse, forensic psychology, crime scene analysis, court processes, and eyewitness testimony. The degree provides graduates with the flexibility, and the combination of knowledge and skills needed for a wide range of careers in crime analysis and policy, crime prevention, corrections, and probation.

Students should note that this course is not accredited by the Australian Psychology Accreditation Council (APAC) – meaning it is not a pathway to becoming a registered clinical psychologist.
