Students should follow the course structure for the course version relevant to the year they commenced. This version applies to students whose commencement year for this course is 2001 to 2004.

The honours year in psychology is a separate course which permits psychology graduates from UWS and other universities to take a challenging fourth year of undergraduate study by coursework and research. All undergraduate UWS psychology courses are followed by the 80 credit point, HECS-based honours program. The honours year has two one-semester seminar programs (Contemporary Issues in Psychology), one year long research methods seminar, and a major thesis.

Accreditation
Psychology is a state-government registered profession with strict entry requirements. For those students who meet entry requirements, this course provides an accredited fourth year of study enabling conditional registration within NSW. This award is designed to help applicants reach the second 'rung' of the qualifications ladder - conditional registration - and will be submitted to the NSW Psychologists' Registration Board for their consideration after passing through the university accreditation processes.

Admission

Open to any graduate having at least the equivalent of an accredited three year psychology bachelors degree within the APS framework. Applicatns are selected on the criteria of overall academic record, psychology academic record, and submission of a specimen research proposal and bibliography. A minimum grade point average of 5.0 (Credit level) is required.

Course Structure

Qualification for this award requires the successful completion of 80 credit points comprising one year-long, 80 credit-point unit that will be divided into four main components: the thesis (40 credit points); Contemporary Issues in Psychology 1 and 2 (2 units, each 10 credit points) and Research Methods seminars (20 credit points).
