For Commencement Spring 2019 - Graduate Diploma in Person-centred Diabetes Care and Education

Designed for health practitioners seeking to improve their theoretical and clinical knowledge of diabetes management in specialty areas of pregnancy, young adults, paediatric, hospital and primary care practice. In addition, to developing an appreciation of epidemiology as a scientific basis for both clinical and primary health care practice. This course is delivered on-line. Enrolment into the Graduate Diploma without meeting the specified criteria for this entry level, will require the completion of all four units of the Graduate Certificate in Person-centred Diabetes Care and Education, including the face to face component and clinical practicum, prior to undertaking the subjects contained in the Graduate Diploma.

Admission

Applicants for the Graduate Diploma in Person-centred Diabetes Care and Education need to:

Have successfully completed an undergraduate degree in health or behavioural science OR appropriate equivalent professional qualification in a diabetes relevant health profession, i.e general practitioners registered nurses, dietitans, nutritionists,podiatrists, pharmacists,exercise physiologists, physiotherapists and psychologists, OR Certificate IV, or higher, in Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders Primary Health Care for Aboriginal Health Workers registered with AHPRA

Or

Have completed the Graduate Certificate in Person-centred Diabetes Care and Education or equivalent qualification accredited by the Australian Diabetes Educators Association

And

Be registered with their professions’ national regulatory body.

And

Have completed at least one year fulltime equivalent work experience in a health profession where they have had the opportunity in providing health care to people with diabetes.

Applicants seeking admission on the basis of work experience must support their application with a statement of service for all work experience listed on the application.

Statement of Service

If you hold overseas qualifications from countries where English is not the standard language of instruction, you must provide evidence of English language proficiency. Refer to Western Sydney’s English language proficiency requirements on UAC’s website. For this course a minimum IELTS Overall Band score 7.0 is required.

Overseas qualifications must be deemed by the Australian Education International - National Office of Overseas Skills Recognition (AEI-NOOSR) to be equivalent to Australian qualifications in order to be considered by UAC and Western Sydney University.

Special Requirements Prerequisites
Students must supply a certified copy of their health professional Bachelor degree or Graduate Diploma in Person-centred Diabetes Care and Education professional qualification, registration certification to practice from Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (or their profession’s national regulatory body and proof of proficiency in English (if undergraduate qualification was obtained overseas) at the time of application

Work Integrated Learning

Western Sydney University seeks to enhance student learning experiences by enabling students to engage in the culture, expectations and practices of their profession or discipline. This course includes a placement or other community-based unpaid practical experience.
